Quite fitting since it has been created by a Script With No Name, definitely the Darkest Spell I have even written.

I believe it's an optical illusion because by construction

  1. the various sines are just a linear interpolation between two sines shifted by exactly one period (the hard part being to cut them all along the same vertical)
  2. all the frames have the same duration
