How can I run Flatpak ver 2.10.38 and AppImage ver 3 at the same time?
#1
I recently tried out the rc3 appimage of Gimp 3, and I am absolutely blown away by the non-destructive editing. This is the greatest thing I have seen in Gimp ever. The problem is none of my scripts for 2.10 work.

I have the Flatpak version of 2.10.38. I cannot run both the appimage and flatpak versions at the same time. If one is started, then the other one doesn't start.

This is crazy since many programs, like Blender, let me run multiple instances at the same time.

Is there a way to run both at the same time? I remember a similar issue with 2.8 and 2.10. Also I believe 2.6 and 2.8.

For a regular Gimp installation the switch
-n, --new-instance Starts a new GIMP instance.

I do not know about the flatpak but it looks like an appimage will pass the -n parameter on. (at least it does here)

I use a Gimp 2.10.38 appimage and then starting a Gimp 3.0 appimage, and as you say, it stops
Try again with the -n switch and Gimp 3.0 starts. Tried it with different version appimages and seems to work. All you can do is try.

Wow that works!

BTW I do this to quickly copy/paste from one to another.

If you use both often it becomes useful to define a few additional and common folders in Preferences/Folders, so that you can easily share brushes/gradients/patterns/palettes/fonts between the two versions.
