select outline

i am trying to select the outline of an image, but the outline is not all the same color and is slightly blended into the main color. my goal is to make the whole outline all the same color.

Two solutions:

• Use the "quick mask" to just fix the selection by painting over the part you want to select/unselect
  
• If it is a man-made object you can draw its outline with the Path tool and eyeball the edge in the blurry part, you can limit the accurate part of the path to the part of interest and then combine it with the regular selection.

Another way could be (If the rest of the image is one colour).
Use the magic wand to select the rest of the image making sure your threshold is low, and then invert the selection.
