Plugins
#1

I have Gimp 2.10.38 and now updated to 3.0.1  and just to 3.0.2 but have found cant get the plugins I have in previous verion to install in 3.
See pic where I copied the exact plugins from location for 2.10 but 3.0.2 and 3.0.1 does not seem to see them do you have to load some
other way in the new updates?

(1) Gimp 2.10 plugins, both python something.py or binary something.exe (in Windows) will not work in Gimp 3.0

(2) For plugins written for Gimp 3 the plugin goes in a folder with th same name as the plugin so, the folder something contains a file something.py (as a minimum, there might be other files in there as well)

(3) In Gimp 3.0 there some something.scm scripts that can be considered as plugins.

(4) Gimp 3.0 plugins are starting to appear.
See: http://www.gmic.eu for a Windows Gimp 3.0 version of gmic_gimp_qt installer.
See: http://gimpchat.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=21535#p294979  for a Gimp 3.0 Windows resynthesizer.
See: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Conver...2-x-to-3-x for a version of shellout for NIK

....but not many at the moment....

That seems a bit of a boo-boo now you need to start again or go back to using 2.10 where the plugins work!

It's been fairly widely known for years now, that when Gimp 3.0 finally arrived, the old plugins from previous versions would be obsolete and non-functional.

While it is aggravating when you have a lot of favorite plugins/scripts that work with earlier versions but don't work with Gimp 3.0, they all probably will be eventually ported over. Patience is the key.

You can easily continue to use whatever 2.10 version of Gimp you are currently using until more people voluntarily decide to update plugins/scripts for Gimp 3.0.  If anyone ever wanted to use more advanced features like non-destructive editing or layer effects, the application programming interface had to be changed and with that change, the previous plugins are incompatible.
