My instution block downloads from Gimp website
#1
My institution vets any download I request. Their cyber security system blocked downloads from the  Gimp website. Thus Gimp is not accessible.

By comparison no problem download and install LibreOffice and Irfanview
We tried to access Gimp via Softronic. Blocked access here too.

Any suggestions?

Yes...here is the suggestion:
unless you are in some sort of business which deals with image processing - your institution is 100% right. Work is for working, and downloading stuff from the net while you are on the clock is usually not permitted...Download GIMP at home on your own time.

Two cases:
  • The PC is yours: connect using another network for download. You can also have someone download it to a USB key for you, and install from the USB key
  • The PC belongs to the institution: they can manage it however they want. While you can't download from the Gimp site maybe they have a local repository of allowed software from which you can download Gimp. Otherwise maybe it's just a glitch due to a false positive in some virus detection software and if you ask they could reconsider the block. And of course even if you can download you may not be able to install it without adequate privileges on your PC.

A friend of mine has a similar situation, but he has no imposition... It is the browser that issues warnings, but just confirm "that you have become aware of the thing" and move on.

Sometimes Windows Defender also issues alerts... and after checking with VirusTotal that the file is "acceptable" (two false positives are a rule) you can go ahead with installing.

If you use a download manager like Uget or Persepolis or a browser like Librewolf the warnings are fewer.

To the wolf to the wolf Pierino always said... and the wolf was not there, then the time the wolf was really there no one listened to him anymore.

Gimp can also be found on the Microsoft store.
