You can't use the address directly. You have to refer to gimpchat.com by name in your browser, to let your browser generates the proper HTTP headers, because at the other end, the software supports different forums using different names, if you come with the address alone, it doesn't know which forum you want to talk to.
And to be able to use gimpchat.com in your browser, it's either the regular DNS system (broken...) or your "hosts" file.
ofnuts, does that mean that gimpchat.com is also using shared hosting with that IP? it's not dedicated server? I am just curious. Because it seems pretty fast for shared hosting. My forum is on shared hosting and it's just really bad sometimes.

Code:
108.160.151.87 gimpchat.com
108.160.151.87 www.gimpchat.com
So current members that read this can access GC and use it normally. But random internet users won't find it until they read this...
So Omega just has to fix the DNS problem....
Edit: The IP address no longer answers... Glad I took a screenshot
Further edit: Seems to be running again...
Those lines should be entered (added) as you posted or with the # in front as in the example lines in the file?
I tried both ways, unsuccessful (I mean: I succeeded in updating the file entering the lines as admin, but when trying to access gimpchat I got the usual error; tried with 2 different browsers, default win10 browser and firefox)

I entered those 2 lines into the host file.
Tried to access the site, but not successful. Browser displayed this:
http://108.160.151.87/cgi-sys/defaultwebpage.cgi
and a message saying the server is misconfigured or may have moved.

If you get this it means you tried to access the server using "http://108.160.151.87/" and not "http://gimpchat.com".

Even on its own dedicated server, it likely runs something that allow it to share the server. Here on gimp-forum.net it's a dedicated virtual server and I could run several different forums....

As displayed, the "#" marks a comment line. Normally, it's a tab between the IP address and the name. Once you have done this, before trying to use it in your browser, using "ping gimpchat.com" in a command window. It should not display "unknown host", but instead display the address you entered and, hopefully, return an acceptable ping delay (~100ms).

Hi gang. Works for me too. Thank you Ofnuts.
The significant question is what to do next. Do we copy and save resources (which are fairly hefty). Where do we save them to?
A lot of decisions ahead!
