Last night I pulled in the latest version of GIMP and it is now in
~/GIMP 2.10/GIMP_AppImage-git-2.10.9-withplugins-20181122-x86_64.AppImage
Seeing that GIMP accepts RawTherapee, I put it in another sub-directory,
~/therap/RawTherapee-releases-5.4.AppImage
Each of these runs, but I'd like RT to start when a raw file is opened by GIMP. Can this be achieved by doing something in ~/.config/GIMP-Appimage/2.10/plug-ins?
