gimp crashes when it tries to find newly installed font

From experience, these off-the-cuff fonts rarely work well. I have Emojis in my standard fonts, I use Noto and Roboto (both free fonts from Google). Roboto (initially for Android...) works well at small sizes. Never had any problem with them (Gimp 2.8 (pango 1.38), Gimp 2.10, and plenty of other apps).
