I agree with Blighty, probably a vector image is best but it is possible using Gimp. I started off making screenshots but too many. Just the way Blighty described it.
Here is a starting basis, note although circular the center is not the center of the canvas. Apart from that, just application of all the Gimp standard tools in various modes. see: https://i.imgur.com/OfTxZGg.jpg
