It is simple enough to show adding a drop shadow and maybe cross, might take a couple of seconds but possibly just as important is to get in the habit of setting up an image for ease of editing. There are scripts and plugins for setting all layers to the canvas size. This one used in the video:

Unzip, put the ofn-layers-to-image-size.py in C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\GIMP\2.10\plug-ins (assuming you are using Windows)
