Certainly can be a problem for regular linux users who want the latest Gimp 2.10.20 and lets face it 14 / 16 / 18 have some unfortunate bugs.
The state of play.
For (k)ubuntu 20.04 there is Gimp 2.10.18 in the main repo, comes without python2 support but another post gives a fix. Will there be a 2.10.20 ? That remains to be seen.
There is this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~savoury1/+archive/ubuntu/gimp Still stuck on 2.10.18 , might upgrade, who knows, but pulls in so many dependencies that I dumped it.
Debian based MXlinux (not KDE) still on 2.10.18 with python 2.7 It might update, but it is community based, depends on the maintainer.
Do you think the devs GEGL / babl requirements are hampering progress for regular users ?
As far as kubuntu 20.04 is concerned, I running in a VM until sure that it is 'adjustable' to my needs. Seems to 'phone-home' a lot
