However, looking at your example https://imgur.com/iE6jYlt I think it is more like this
All basic Gimp tools

1) Make your text layer, consider using a suitable 'blocky' font and you might want to space the characters out a little.
2) Bump the text layer up to image size to give working room. Layer -> Layer to image size
3) Select the rendered text Layer -> Transparency -> Alpha to Selection
4) Apply a gradient on the selection

5) Apply the bevel Filters -> Decor -> Add Bevel 5a) Lose the selection Select -> None
6) There is a distinct drop shadow. Very hard and mostly vertical. Use Filters -> Light & Shadow -> Drop Shadow break the links between x & y blur=0 opacity=max.
