If you can run Gimp without any of the resources using the switch -d
-d, --no-data
Do not load patterns, gradients, palettes, or brushes. Often useful in non-interactive situations where start-up time is to be minimized.
In Win7 using the run command and
That starts a minimal Gimp
Which should use just a small amount of memory, proving it is a Gimp resources problem or not as the case may be. I get just 29,900K
