Apparently a problem with the windows thumbnailer
The advice here is do not save as layers.

this is a known issue #3740 of multipage TIFF with thumbnail. So the workaround for now would be to disable the thumbnail in the TIFF export options.
Also from this forum: https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-Corrupted-tif-file Never did find out if forcing a delete worked.
