Updating an extracted appimage.
#2
Quote: have GIMP 2.10.21 installed - extracted from the appimage - thanks to much help and advice from Rich.
Now I would like to upgrade it to 2.10.25. Is there a way to do this, or is it necessary to delete all the files including the config files and the .desktop file and re-install?

I would keep your Gimp 2.10.21 until sure that Gimp 2.10.25 works correctly. I use 2.10.25 in a kubuntu 20.04 machine, no problems with it.

As before download the appimage. Rename your existing 2.10.21 folder and make a new folder using old name. This is just to save you making a new shortcut. Then run
GIMP_AppImage-git-2.10.25-20210610-withplugins-x86_64.AppImage --appimage-extracted
That makes the folder squashfs-root and in there is the 'starter' AppRun Your existing shortcut should already point to it.
It will use the same user profile ~/.config/GIMP-AppImage/

Quote:Filmulator however works, is simple and has a nice clear UI. Would it be an advantage to extract this from its appimage?
Probably not worth it, unpacked it is about 115 MB and 600 files. Not a big application.

Quote:With extracted appimages, is there a good way to upgrade/transfer these to another computer, for instance by a usb stick?
You can try it, usually better to move the appimage file and extract it in the new location. More important is moving the Gimp profile with all your customary settings in it.
