I confess that I had already thrown in the towel. (I hope this expression makes some sense in the English language).
Following PixLab's suggestions in post #13, I reduced the number of nodes, but only to keep getting the same errors and having my Gimp crash for the second time.
But the two posts before this one (#14 and #15) shed some light on this problem.
It seems like it really makes all the difference how the paths are created!

If it weren't for your help I would never have been able to use this script.
