AFAIK, you can't
But you can do it without caring to see the edges of the brush, put that brush in a mode that will affect only the grays/whites/etc.. like "Overlay" in this 27-second video

I won't use any brush, but a colored layer in a certain mode for the edges' color gradient to be taken in count as well like the video on the brush above, but color by layer is faster and easier to change color later on...
