Editing the image in Gimp (or your other editors) should affect the print. Sometimes the print driver software will also perform simple operations, such as brightness or contrast.
My guess is:
Gimp (and others) use RGB colour, that is converted to a CMYK (cyan / magenta / yellow / key=black) format by the printer software...and that is what you are getting CMYK inks without the photo blue. If the Canon printer comes with an editing application you would suppose that will work with the printer. You will probably have to ask on a Canon forum (somewhere)
