Looks like you exported the layer mask (hard to guess better since you uploaded images that are 166px high...).
You can still paste as a floating selection, this is somewhere in the menus. You can also merge down the created layer. The floating selection is for the most part a legacy from times when RAM was scarce. These days you keep layers as much as possible.
