Whatever OS you use, Gimp has to "find" the RT installation so that the built-in RAW plugin opens the image in RT before sending it back to Gimp when RT closes. This is know not to work in the past. AFAIK one of the RT developers does post on pixls.us Give details of your DNG image version as well, that might be the issue.
Thanks for the reply. A mac user has replied, but I will still check out that forum. The knowledge of contributors is the difference between success and tearing what's left of your hair out

The string about Rawtherapee must appear in the window and must be in the first place. If it is not in the first place highlight it with a mouse click, press OK and close and restart Gimp.
Charlie, you may well turn out to be a life saver. Can I type it in exactly as it appears on your screenshot? I can't see any location specific info in the path. I managed to link RawTherapee with Gimp, meaning I can open raws in RT then, after some basic fiddling, can send it to gimp, but I want to set up full functionality. I am ditching Lightroom once and for all and am eager to start learning Gimp, but can't totally settle to that while I am trying to get it to work
