Gimp version questions

I have Gimp 2.9.6 std. (larger install file) .
- How is that version different than other one ?
- Where to download 2.9.8 std ?
- Where to put G'MIC in 2.9.8 release? In GIMP 2.9\share\gimp\2.0 there is no plugin folder.
- STD version doesn't have console pop up when GIMP is active. General version has it.
