Still using Gimp 2.9
As previous comments, normal map usually used for 3D games engine rendering.
Can be used as a source for bumpmapping.
The dialogues are slightly different in Gimp 2.9, so a very quick, do not blink, video demo. First a more regular bump map procedure, then using a normal map. Duration 3 minutes
