You possibly do not see any difference if
(1) Your computer set-up is for a 'Latin' script and has a western keyboard.
(2) In Gimp, starting off when the text box is in dynamic mode.
The right-to-left option shows better when the text box is a fixed and for demo purposes the old text editor is used. example: https://i.imgur.com/88MwTU0.jpg
If you were hoping that the order of the characters is reversed, you are out-of-luck.
