Two places you can configure the grid Edit -> Preferences -> Default Image -> Default Grid
or
A per-image basis Image -> Configure Grid see: https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-image...-grid.html Save the image as an .xcf and those settings are saved with the image.

That is quite a large canvas for a 1x1 grid, some zoom settings and it will blank out everything so check View -> Show Grid and View -> Snap to Grid

The settings are a personal choice, I prefer something unobtrusive. https://i.imgur.com/SsrYBHd.jpg Up to you.

I think you are already using it but the pencil tool has no anti-aliasing. The brush tool even at 1 pixel is bigger. https://i.imgur.com/dCrAQvB.jpg

Thank you. One thing that bugs me.
In default grid 10*10, pixel brush set to size of 10 does not fill up one grid cell. Why is that?

It is the way the parametric .vbr brushes work. Something to do with the radius but not 100% sure.

If you need an exact 10x10 then make your own .gbr brush.
