Beginner -> tablet & Gimp 2.10
#1
Hi everyone

I just bought a tablet and wanted to try it. Gimp seemed to be a good option for it.
I successfully installed my XP PEN start 03 but I didn't succeed in having brush options that match with the drawing I get with a real pen ... not even close.

Do you have any suggestion. Please, keep in mind that I'm a real beginner.

Thank you for your time

EDIT: I have maybe found what I was looking for and it could be the calligraphy tool.

You typically use the paint brush with adequate "Brush dynamics" that map pen pressure to opacity/size.

You can make you own dynamics that combine several factors (pressure, velocity, randomness) to act on several parameters (opacity, size, color...)

Did you install the Windows driver for the XP PEN Star 03 ? see: https://www.xp-pen.com/download/star-03.html

As well as using a dynamics brush setting have you set up the tablet in Edit -> Input Devices ?

This is my Veikk A50 tablet

Is that the mypaint calligraphy brush ? It is worth looking at the mypaint set of brushes but the implementation in Gimp is old and no better settings for a tablet than a mouse.

If that is your interest then try the actual MyPaint program  https://mypaint.app/about/  which has the updated brushes and controls. It is very much for artists but good fun whatever your skill.

Thank you so much for your replies.

I finally got good results by selecting 32 bit integer when creating a new image. It changes everything.

Here is what I got with the Ink tool :

And here is what I got with the paint brush tool:
