Hi,

how can I create this effect, the one on the laptop object ?

Select the Rectangle select tool, start to draw a rectangle then hit the Shift key while drawing the rectangle, once it's done, then select the Rotate Tool, in the Tool Options select the Selection icon, go on the canvas then rotate 45 degrees, then just fill with yellow

Is it the background or is it the laptop shape? Background - you have an answer. Laptop, you call it an object and it probably was one time coming from some vector application.

Gimp is a bitmap raster editor not vector, so no 'objects' but you can draw in a path outline and use that as a base for painting, building up in layers.

The shadow is the one 'effect' that comes with Gimp. This using Filters -> Light and Shadow -> Long Shadowand settings as shown.

   

As this example a Gimp xcf file attached with layers and path to show the build up. All very hands-on
