I wonder why they did that ? The best place is https://discuss.pixls.us/ where David Tschumperle the gmic author can be found.
However my thoughts.
Quote:This error has always been there for me since I started using Krita few years ago. I always thought maybe these filter are discontinued or something.
The version you are using is 2.7.1 which is about a year old. You must have updated the filters sometime there are 522 showing. A year is a long time in g'mic terms, current version is 2.9.1 and lots of changes with every update. One was a change in the way some of the filters are compressed. That might be the problem
If you are up to a little experiment, the attachment contains the old version grain filters. Unzip and put the 5 files xxxx.cimgz in the gmic user profile C:\Users\"yourname"\AppData\Roaming\gmic Start up krita and gmic and see if the Degradations / Add Grain filter works. 50/50 chance and might prove something or nothing.
You could update from the gmic site http://www.gmic.eu https://www.fosshub.com/GMIC.html?dwl=gm..._win64.zip although if for some reason that does not connect to update the filters (now 544) it might be worse. Back up the old gmic_krita folder first as a precaution.
Does work. This in my Win10 VM https://i.imgur.com/Dj07r2Q.jpg
