GIMP 2.10 incomplete on Linux
#1
I use GIMP 2.8 on Debian Linux. In order to use GIMP 2.10, which is installed on my Linux Mint partition, I need GIMP-UFRAW, G'MIC and BIMP. Help shall be appreciated.

Which version of Mint are you using?

Assuming it is 18, are you using a flatpak or an appimage? or something else.

All affects a possible solution.

Mint 18.3, Rich, and Flatpak. It appears that UFRaw does not work with 2.10, so I shall try to learn Rawtherapee.

This is a post on my experiences installing Gimp 2.10.0 flatpak in ubuntu 16.04 - which is equivalent to Mint 18.

https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-ubuntu...41#pid7741

If you read through it (skip the installation, you have already done that) there is a bit about installing compiled plugins. Lots of extra files needed for some things to work.

So far nufraw works -proof screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/XnC6vEI.jpg

gimp_gimic_gtk + BIMP and a couple of others.

It does involve copying lots of files into the flatpak installation.

It posted a zip with these files but give me half an hour and I will update with the latest nufraw.

Usual garantee - there is none
note. nufraw still stops svg files loading so turn permissions on/off as required.

While nufraw suits me, for more versatility, rawtherapee might be a better bet.

This one might be a good alternative for you. The appimage from

https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-appimage/releases/

latest release https://github.com/aferrero2707/gimp-app...4.AppImage

This already includes nufraw and gimp_gmic_qt and as I understand it, user plugins can now be added.

Thank you, Rich. The github option seems the obvious choice. As it happens, I had not even heard of nufraw.

It is just an updated version of ufraw.

I just gave the appimage a try. My advice.

If you have Gimp 2.8.x installed, disable the gimp profile ~./gimp-2.8 (rename to ~./ggimp-2.8) to prevent copying to the Gimp appimage profile ~./config/GIMP.appimage (then rename back)

BIMP works, put the plugin in ~./config/GIMP.appimage/2.10/plug-ins

not sure what else works or is included.

What is BIMP? Never heard of it.

"BIMP. Batch Image Manipulation Plugin." Most search engines should find http://registry.gimp.org/node/26259.
