Getting brush effects with mouse?

You need a proper brush, together with any Dynamics that used the "Fade" (which is the distance traveled by the cursor since you clicked down). You can set the Fade length in the Tool options.

You can, to some extent, also use the "Velocity" but this is hard to control with a mouse, since the big difference between mouse and tablet is that the cursor moves aren't proportional to the mouse moves .
