Yes, news reports, here in the UK 8:30 am.  All sorts down, anything IT related, all sorts of payment systems as well.

Says not a hack, a M$ update(s) gone wrong.

Not sure if it's a Windows update. As I understand it it is more a rather common antivirus package called CrowdStrike.

I head that the fix is to boot the PC in recovery mode and erase a couple of files. But since it's recovery mode it cannot be scripted, so IT support is getting a little swamped.

I saw this fix at Slashdot comments.

* Boot into safe mode or the Windows Recovery Environment.
* Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\drivers\CrowdStrike
* Locate the file that matches "C-00000291*.sys" for your machine. Delete that file.
* Reboot machine

As ofnuts said you need to do this from the PC I think.

Google translated :
Microsoft users may be the biggest victims of the global tech problems, but the problem doesn't lie with the software giant. It appears to come from CrowdStrike, a security company. CrowdStrike's software, Falcon Sensor, allows you to analyze files you try to open on your computer system and prevent possible security breaches.
“Think of it as a very nice virus scanner,” says computer scientist Jeroen Baert, known from the podcast 'Nerdland'. "It patrols computers that people use and sees if there is other software nearby. CrowdStrike then has to protect you against viruses, hackers and almost any malware you can encounter."
But during a recent overnight update to that Falcon Sensor, something went wrong and Windows PCs and servers started crashing or going into a 'boot loop', endlessly rebooting. And if there's one thing that scares IT specialists, it's Microsoft's 'blue screen of death' (BSOD): the message that something has gone seriously wrong with the system. “Compare it to a police force in your city that suddenly starts to misbehave,” Baert chuckles. “Who are you sending there?!”

Mr Bean would be not good in IT. First ridicule the customer then fix the problem  Smile

Testing software can't be underestimated, so often dependencies are only on the developers computer and nobody else's. You pretty much need a clean install of an OS you will never use.

Comment from mainstream media  -
"The world largest IT outage, soon to be followed by the world's largest litigation case in history. Going to cost CrowdStrike an absolute fortune."

Here in Australia we have a 'right to disconnect' so the tech guy doesn't have to show-up till Monday morning Smile

Even more, also the trust of the investors as they lost already 20%
And it looks like that from the 16 to the 18, some where aware?  Big Grin

I have read that they recently fired half the QA team, so some shareholders did draw their own conclusions.
