Help for putting a design on this T-shirt Mockup PSD file

Hello gimp users, I'm beginner with gimp. I have a PSD file and want to use gimp to put any design in the future on this T-shirt mockup.

By searching, I found that people will face some obstacles because of Photoshop smart objects. And as a beginner, tried many tutorials, but applying them on this mockup didn't work for me!

Note: This Mockup is free for personal and commercial use, I just didn't want to link to the source as I'm afraid of linking to external source will break rules or something.

Thank you for replying. I'm considering to use a design on a plain t-shirt mockup images as shown in above videos. But I need to put a design into this ready layered psd file for purpose of learning too. because maybe in the future I see a ready mockup psd file that I like and use it.
So I need to learn and handle situations like this.

You really need to use Gimp, manipulating simple images before getting involved with more complex projects, however:

These PS templates seldom work 100% and this one is no different.

1. Expand the layer groups and turn off the copyright layer visibility.
2. The highlights layer is in a non-compatible mode for Gimp, turn visibility off.
3. The 'sample' logo is in 'Change this' Get rid of it. Easiest way is use the eraser tool with a large brush size. Note this layer is only 860 x 860 pix That is the size for your mockup logo.
4. The black 'Change T-shirt color' layer is not suitable for your logo, bucket fill with white. Note the bucket fill tool option BG color fill.

6. Lost 5 somewhere Your 5000 x 5000 logo is too large for the mock up. Work on a copy and scale down to 860 x 860 Image -> Scale Image
7. With the 'Change this layer'  active paste the copied logo in. Edit -> Paste
8. Anchor the resulting 'Floating' temporary layer into the 'Change This' layer
9. Gives this which might be ok for your purposes.

10. The mockup can sometimes be improved by giving the logo the effect of following the folds in the cloth. Use Filters -> Map -> Displace
see:  https://docs.gimp.org/2.10/en/gimp-filter-displace.html  Use the shadows layer as the map and slightly adjust the Vertical displacement.
11. Different colours ? Fill the relevent layer to suit.

Edit: Important Gimp 2.10.20 (maybe .22) psd file handling is a bit buggy. Save your work as Gimp .xcf file.

Dear rich2005, you are right 100% about this. As you know A lot of people when start to learn something, they want to learn it fast.
I want to apologize because I reply too late. I must admit your explanation is great.

Do you know what is my dream? I dream that Gimp & Inkscape (since they are the free big players in this industry) unite together and develop more & more and create more programs like adobe (but on the same principle free & light software ) and be the standard programs in all companies.
Also, I look forward to see free courses from you the developers on big level & scale like "domestika" courses to explain everything about your software
