The first one easy. Use selections and bucket fill. One colour per layer.
See DarkSideOfTheMoon1.xcf in the attached zip.
Switch layers on and off to see what each layer contains.
The second one can be done with smoke brushes.
I have done just one colour, but the same principle applies. One colour per layer, use a different brush for each colour.

I have also included a screen print to show the settings used.
