I can't edit a path
#1
A few days a ago I created a closed path, edited it a bit, and saved it as an svg file.

Today I tried to load the path and edit it some more.  The path loaded and I can see it.  I am in path editing mode and can't edit the path.  I can not see the points in the path.  The cursor stays the same -- with a little circle with a slash through it -- no matter what I do.  I try clicking on the path and nothing happens.  I can't move any points.

What can be done to fix this?

I can not reproduce that. Best if you zip the .svg file and post it here.

...then.. a bit more information.
(1) Did you import the svg file from the Paths dock ? A right click for the context menu
or
(2) Did you open the svg from the File menu ?

To edit the path you  have to:
  • Make it visible (eye icon the path list)
  • Start the Path tool
  • Get close to/over t it with the mouse cursor (that should show a hand)
  • Click, which should select the path (make the anchors appear)
Since you appear to have loaded the path from a SVG file, one possibility is that you didn't check Import paths when opening the SVG so you are only seeing a rendering of the path on a layer and there is no path in the image (in which case if the Path tool is in Edit or Move modes, it will indeed display a forbidden indicator since there is nothing to act on).

Otherwise please attach a screenshot, showing the Path tool options and the Paths list.
