Looking for brush menu management tips
#1
My brushes menu is out of control. I've added several new ones, most of them for special, limited use. To further complicate things, a couple of stray clipboard images appeared at the top of the brushes menu. ??? I found some tags at the bottom of the Brushes menu that seem like they should limit the display, but nothing happens when I click them on and off.

Does anyone have a good strategy for sorting things out and managing this mess short of moving seldom used ones into a detached storage folder?

Is there a plug-in to manage brushes similar to the Photoshop method of swapping collections in and out?

And how do I exorcise those clipboard images?

My addon-manager script, perhaps?

Note that the first choice in the brushes and the patterns lists is always the current clipboard contents. This is rather useful.

Thanks for that link Ofnuts. That sounds promising. I notice that the instructions stop with Windows 8 and you have only a brief addendum at the end for GIMP 2.8. Is there anything we should know about Windows 10 and/or GIMP 2.10? I'm about to pour a fresh cup of coffee and dig in.

BTW, do you know where those clipboard images lurk?

Alas, Ofnuts, I found a pile of your scripts on SourceForge, but am unable to find the addon-manager script. Could you please provide a specific link for that download?

Question

Ofnuts scripts usually come with a zipped file and included documentation.
I just downloaded addonCollectionManager-3.0 but only came the (.py) file.  Dodgy

I use a portable version, I believe I have no problems for that.
Where can I get information on how to install and configure this addon?  Huh

Thx.

The plugin goes back to Gimp 2.8 days Wink

The usage is here: http://gimp-tools.sourceforge.net/managementtools.shtml

and I did once make a over-long boring video (Gimp 2.8) about it http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-tools/files/scripts/ http://youtu.be/v0g0qv4YMks

...but it might help, although portable might need some 'tweaks'

Edit:  A couple of screenshots that might help with (say) samj's portable version.

Using brushes as an example - other resources scripts, patterns, gradients, similar.

The portable equivalent of the Gimp profile is the Preferences folder (1) Make a folder there brushes_storage (note the underscore) (2) Fill that with collections of brushes, folders, zipped collections, zipped PS abr's work (3)

Right click on the appropriate dock, this example brushes - brushes sets (4) That brings up a menu to select or deselect whatever collections you want (5) The resource is refreshed when you ok it.

Hi Rich2005, would you have the link to the video?

The link you provided is to download the file.
Allow me to disagree, your videos are always instructive and objective.
Thank you for your help!

Edit (Too)

Rich2005
I posted before I read your post about the Edit.
After the tips in editing the previous post, I think it will be enough, I think I understood.
Thank you.
