Suggestion on removing a pattern from a photo?

Looking for suggestions on how to remove or reduce a pattern like this without destroying what detail there is. Including a Google Drive link since it's not letting me embed pics in posts.

Not much hope with that one in my opinion.

You can use a fast-fourier-transform (FFT) and since you are using Windows you might try the gimp_gmic_qt plugin http://www.gmic.eu which has a version in the frequencies section.

The problem with this type of image is, try and sharpen the result and the pattern is restored.

Is that your own scan ? Part of a larger image ? Ofnuts has a procedure where you carefully scan from different directions and "difference" layers. Not easy to do.

Next question - how do I get mine to look like yours with color icons for the tools? Lol. Mine is black & white.

Back to the original question, give descreen a try as denzjos post

Coloured toolbox icons? An easier question.  Edit -> Preferences -> Interface ->Icon Theme.

   

..and the one above that 'Theme' for lighter overall if required.

Another way, FFT can be a little tricky to implement sometimes. This again using the gimp_gmic_qt plugin

Use the Grey Descreen filter and adjust the values to lose the pattern.  Set the output to New Layer

   

Set the Layer mode of the grey layer to Luminance.

Many thanks - I had to lower the sensitivity a little because of artifacting in the larger photo but those settings were in the right ballpark. It definitely improved it.

    Using gimp's wavelet decompose and levels. Gmic's local contrast enhancement and constrained sharpen I got this.
Plus smooth diffusion gets rid of some of those lines

Or you could try GMIC's unstrip then Gimps levels (auto input levels)
