GL is now no where to be found on Duckduckgo.com.
but is on page 2 of google results. So strange how a site can drop dramatically on one and moves up on another. Watch.. next I'll probably drop super far again on Google and then pops up on duckduckgo again hehehe PS: when searching for 'gimp forum'

So here's a million dollar question.
Are there any steps that I could do to improve my forums ranking in Alexa ? I noticed the other day my forum's ranking jumped up by nearly 0.5 million places and today it's up by another 1,590, up to 4,637,842th place now. I am curious to know if there are other ways to improve my ranking or do I just keep doing what I am doing and let it take its natural course?

Alexa sort of measures your traffic (how exactly if you aren't an affiliate, I don't know). If you want to go up you need to have more traffic. To have more traffic you have to show up on Google. Currently people coming here mostly searched "Gimp forum" on Google. Another good share searched for large icons themes for Gimp. Various places already spotted by Google as heavily Gimp related also link here, like my SourceForge pages and several of my answers in the StackExchange network. Getting known is slow. It took GimpForums.com at least three years to show up on Google's radar. We seem to be doing somewhat better, but we didn't really start from scratch, Rich, Kevin, Blighty and I are carrying over the experience gained on GimpForums.com.

Btw, just found your edit to my post on GD. You went from
http://bakon.ca/gimplearn/scrolling-animation-logo-script-for-gimp-386 to http://gimplearn.net/viewtopic.php?t=386 . This is bad. As any article on SEO will tell you, Google loves meaningful URLs. The old form tells a lot more about the page contents than the new one.

yeah but i purchased some SEO for the old forum and when I moved to gimplearn.net, the SEO extension stopped working so I stopped using it.
I am hoping Google gets smarter and finds it anyways, if it doesn't then I'll have to live with it Wait a second... Do you think Google would like it better if i used a link like this? gimplearn.net/viewtopic.php?desc=scrolling-animation-logo-script-for-gimp&t=386 Because I think i can create a link like this myself (custom hack it myself) and not depend on the extension that stopped working.

Ok possibility is good enough for me to do this hack... the pages won't use that desc= value but it's in the link ..
I can't imagine it's any worse than it is right now. There I finshed the hacks (of occurrences that i could find). We'll wait and see if GL moves up in ranks now. I moved up half a million last week then dropped 300K each day for 2 days straight. hehehe
