V poor colour ptints
#1
Hello, I am new to Linux and Gimp.
I am trying to print photos and although they seem ok in the program they come out with
poor contrast and de-saturated red, in fact rubbish.
I have printed the same pictures in windows using photoshop pro with no problem.
The printer is an epson P50 with epson premium glossy paper. All inks full.
Has anyone any ideas?
Thanks
David

It could be the linux printer driver. I once had a Canon printer that refused to use the black ink for photo images. That was just lack of interest in linux from Canon.

Depends on the version of linux you are using and the Gimp you are using (enlighten us on that edit: regular/flatpak/snap/appimage) but you could try the Gutenprint plugin. Looks like Epson P50 is supported. example screenshot: https://i.imgur.com/IVBDUVU.jpg

You could try in a terminal

Code:
sudo apt install gimp-gutenprint printer-driver-gutenprint

No guarantee that it is any better Wink You still keep the regular Gimp print, both in the Image menu.

Have you tried printing with some other application such as XNViewMP I think that is in the repo.
