Hello,

I want to design playing cards in the format of 57mm x 87mm which should pe printed later.

I calculated that I need for 300dpi  1028x673 pixels.  

Next I created a sample card but it looks ugly because the corners are pixelated. How to so it better? Is the .SVG format needed?

How do you recolor a specific color without messing up another color?
Every time I try to recolor something, it colors in the border too. This annoys me quite a lot and I would like to know if such a tool exists in the Plugins category or in vanilla GIMP.
(P.S: This is a feature paint.net has, I'm on a macOS, and therefore I cannot use paint.net to complete said objective.)

The installer for the Windows version of the gmic_gimp plugin has changed a little. see: http://gmic.eu/download.shtml for the installer and https://youtu.be/4wXgfTIeOOs for the demo.

Because it contains some files that might conflict with existing plugins, the gmic_gimp plugin installer now creates a plug-ins sub-folder for all the files.

My advice. 
If you have a previous gmic_gimp using the provided installer, use the uninstaller via Windows. 
Typically look at Control Panel -> Programs -> Uninstall a Program

With the new installer, run it, stick to the defaults and a new folder is created under plug-ins in your Gimp profile.



At the moment, this is not automatically recognised by Gimp
Start Gimp, go to Edit -> Preferences -> Folders -> Plug-ins and add that folder to the list.



Restart Gimp, open an image and check, bottom of the filters menu, there is a GMIC-QT entry. 
It does check for updated filters, so can take a little time to start. 
Be patient. If you are not connected to the internet, connect up and update the filters. This is a small download, nothing to worry about.

i'm using python-fu, i want to copy the filter iwarp i added to one layer to another layer i just added to the document. 

my code:

    document = gimp.image_list()[0]
    layer_with_filter = document.layers[0]
    layer_without_filter = document.layers[3]

Want to print an image and check what it looks like at actual size?

By default Gimp has View -> Dot for Dot enabled. see: https://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-view-dot-for-dot.html

This is because Gimp is a bitmap/raster editor and works in pixels not real world (inches/millimetres..) units. With Dot for Dot ON each image pixel equates to one screen (monitor) pixel.

This is a photograph of my laptop. I made a new image 100mm x 100mm at the default resolution 72 pixels-per-inch (ppi)

Important, keep to a zoom value of 100% to see correct comparisons.

When View -> Dot for Dot is ON

   

From the ruler it measures about 45mm square, Gimp uses pixels, there is a tiny rounding error when looking at Image properties, 100mm becomes 99.84mm nothing to be concerned about.

when View -> Dot for Dot is OFF

   

The canvas. 100mm x 100mm now measures the correct size.

If only it was that simple:

What you see very much depends on setting Gimp up correctly. Edit -> Preferences -> Display
Modern monitors and especially laptop screens might have a high pixel density. These are the values I use for my laptop.

   

Gimp thinks that the correct Monitor resolution is 96 ppi
Calibrate is generally broken with Gimp 2.8.x (much better in Gimp 2.9.5)
You can calculate this using / before after proportions or a bit of trial and error to obtain a value.

Why work with Dot for Dot ON

Back to Gimp is a pixel editor, when ON you have control over each pixel, when OFF Gimp will decide which pixels are changed.

Does anybody happen to have a neat solution to the following problem, please?

I'm trying to take a circular selection and then map it to a rectangular space - rather like this image

 
from Squircles' mapping a circle to a square post, in fact.

(And vice versa - what's the point if you can't get yourself back to where you came from?)

I was investigating the Lighting Effects filter's Environment Map section to see if there wasn't a blog post in it, and found that something similar to the operation I'm now interested in is carried out in selecting the source of the environment map to use. Then I found I couldn't duplicate the effect easily to illustrate the concept, even after tinkering with G'MIC's Deformations/Conformal Maps function, which looked like the sort of thing that might do the trick. 

Yes, I could get myself together to understand and write the thing, but I left coding behind a few years ago and I could spend several months teaching myself to Do This Properly in a new language, whereas what I need is to get something written about it sooner than later; if somebody has already invented the wheel (possibly by morphing something square) then it would be of immense help. Can anybody cast some light?

I followed instructions, and Export Layers does not exist there. .ora seem to be dropped from that version of GIMP.

I have to create a 100x100px icon out of this 640x426px picture (see link below), focusing on the girl's face.

I've been told that first I need to scale the image as closely as possible to 100x100, and then change the canvass size to 100x100.

How can I do it so that I can select just the girl's face, and not her body or surrounding elements? Could you tell me the steps so that I can do this with other pictures?

I've followed this video as well as I could have but my trouble is that when I erase the land lines in GIMP, they don't keep the beveling and embossing effect. I know she's using PS but I feel like there's something I'm overlooking. Is it the "stroke" effect?
