Use Font designed in inkscape? - fauveboy - 03-28-2019

I've designed a font I want to use in Inkscape. At the moment I have to design each word I want to use and then export it from Inkscape and then drop it into gimp. Is there a way I can just " Upload" the alphabet in the of the font I've designed so I can just type words I want to use in gimp?

Many many thanks,

Is it really a font (OTF/TTF format) or just a set of vectors?

Gimp only does true fonts. My suggestion would be to assemble the text in Inkscape, and then copy over the resulting vector. Or make a true font from your SVG (Fontforge, etc...).

You will find it hard going with just a collection of paths.

1. Some hints.
You can copy and paste a path from one image to another. The keyboard shortcuts for that are not set so instead of a lot of clicking set some up.
It might be easier in multi window mode with the paths dialogue follow image unticked.

Some snags
The pasted in paths are not visible until you make them visible.
The arrangement of the pasted in paths is the same as the original.

You can of course just import all the paths into the image and start moving / duplicating as required. In my opinion not much between either method. Both a PITA.

2. Making a otf/ttf font from the paths. Never tried this, a bit old, I assume it still works.

3. Make what I call a pseudo-font for a Gimp, not really my cup-of-tea. I do not like the restrictions imposed by entering text into a script,  but there is a forum member well into the procedures. Pages and pages on the subject start here: https://gimplearn.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=301 I think you can use paths in the process, not sure.
