If gimp was already open and one have no picture load for the moment, then with the left mouse button pressed drag the photo or picture to the gimp workspace. If one have already a picture load in gimp, then the picture you dragged is set as a new layer.
Tip: Drag it on the tool box or on Wilbert (the little Wilbert above the tool box) it will open as
new image even if you have one already opened, You can also drag the image directly
between layers and it will take its place exactly where you dropped it between layers (you can even drag n drop an .xcf full of layers and groups between 2 layers)
