Certainly works with linux (kubuntu 20.04) The linux appimage is a monster 90 MB and it is internet based, you do need an active internet connection...but it does access the google font collection and there are hundreds of fonts there. However not all functions available in the free version.
Ofnuts collection manager works with fonts. Fonts handling not as good in Windows as in linux. Windows OS does not always release a font when it is closed. Sometimes needs a restart.

One Gimp function that is not always mentioned are tool-presets. Normally created in Gimp but they are just text files which you can copy / edit for different properties.
