I use Windows but maybe Mac is similar.  Copy the files to an SD folder as previously posted.  Then when in Gimp file open navigate to the SD folder.  When you find the folder drag it to the list of folders.  Then when entering file open the SD folder will be there and all you have to do is click on it.  You won't have to navigate again.
