What im missing from this thread is what OP actually wants to achieve artistically.
Flowing text into a cross-shape is technically one thing, but what OP wants to express artistically can make all the difference regarding techniques.
Is this for a religious content, or a poem ?
Its nice to automate things, but sometimes that can also be limiting.
As rich pointed out at the beginning of the thread, you can arrange text without any scripts or filters.
Its just a matter of arranging text on various layers and positioning them with the Move Tool.
