While I am a die-hard KDE user going from Mepis -> PCLinuxOS -> kubuntu I think the best for a beginner is Mint with probably the MATE desktop, It has a nice clean menu-ing system. It is based on ubuntu LTS (long term) versions and has some benefits over ubuntu no SNAP installations, but can also use Ubuntu PPA's (for say Gimp 3).
There should not be any problem with wireless - did it connect ? Once installed might be easier.
Rich, thanks. Looking for some more information and now I learned that my new Mint MATE would be 'Vanessa', nice.
