I guess there must be a time limit on editing posts...
Anyways, I'm thinking a lot of you have managed various workarounds for loading dds files with the newer compression formats but I thought I'd pass along that you can do it via Paint.Net with the plugin referenced in this forum post:

I opened the offending file that way, saved it into a friendlier compression format, and Gimp was able to load it just fine. Gonna keep Paint.net installed just for that purpose.
