Another appimage
#1
This is the one mentioned in https://www.gimp.org/news/2024/05/28/exp...-appimage/ (I think)

It is based on Debian, so while it works here on kubuntu 24.04 , it is not going to be universal.  It is Gimp 2.99.19 but I am not sure how old it is, probably that end of May date.  There are some extra themes you can add, this one described as "Warm". Not my cup-of-tea (or coffee) but interesting. 245 MB download.

The links:   https://script-fu.github.io/artbox/hub/about/  https://script-fu.github.io/artbox/hub/d.../AppImage/

Bear in mind that Gimp 3 RC1 release is due very soon.

You can get the latest from gitlab
works on Debian12 systems and LinuxMint Debian edition (LMDE 6)

Goto gitlab Artifacts,
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/artifacts

Find the link named
gimp-debian-x64
The list there changes a lot, so you have to look for it each time

Once found: In that row to the right: click on the browse icon

Once there goto
build
linux
appimage
_Output
GIMP-2.99.19-x86_64.AppImage  => that's the download

I tried this appimage from Gimp 2.99.19... but I still prefer the one from IvanHC, it is more likely to work, since it is based on the positive results of compiling the ArchLinuxCN package.

Thanks for that.  I did know about the artifacts page but not that it contained the appimage.
As of today, the Gimp 3 RC1 appimage is there (240 MB) and it does come with python-fu and script-fu.

In Gimp3 on Linux the Python is the one from the system... Currently using Python 3.12 with a Gimp3 compiled "out-of-the.box".

When your system is up to date making your own Gimp from source is reasonably simple.

There are several IvanHC Gimp appimages, which should not be confused.

Version 3.0 rc1 "develop" has python 3 and the more complete Appimage... but a little less updated, it is the sequel to 2.99.18.

Version 2.99.19 "GIT" is more updated, it is obtained from the ArchlinuxCN gimp-git package, it does not have the python console, but runs the new type of scm, it is the Nightly version.

There's a whole selection of older 2.99.X... that I'm not talking about.

Version 2.10.38 HYBRID has Debian 10's python2 but derives from Archlinux 2.10.38,

then there is 2.10.38 without python2 which faithfully follows the ArchLinux package and is the basis of the Hybrid.
