I found the problem. Turns out it was my Wacom tablet. I had to reinstall the software for it a couple months ago, and it never occurred to me that it could be the problem, as I had used gimp just fine months after installing it. The thing is I never close gimp, so when Windows updated it forced it to close for the first time after I reinstalled the software, and as a result showed the error while causing me to believe the update was the problem.
