Is English just badly pronounced French?

French is also very present in the Portuguese language.

The influence of some French words on the Portuguese language goes almost unnoticed, as is the case of Cacetete:
It comes from the verb Casser and the noun Tête. (to break one's head)

I'm not sure what the translation would be in French. I did some research and the closest thing was "Matraque".

In English, I think the translation would be "Truncheon".

indeed, Matraque" is in French, and it's the right spelling

I was quite surprised to find that Russian has borrowed a lot of technical words from the French, and not from the English, possibly because during the cold war it was more politically correct to borrow fro a relatively friendly nation.

And I understand that Spanish stole our "ordinateur" (just hastily repainted as "ordinatore").
