Is this for a game? What is this de-saturation shader ?
Colours already maximum saturation ? No way I know of to go beyond that, by definition maximum is maximum.
Is it possible to adjust the image in Gimp so that the external de-saturation shader changes nothing ?
The gmic filter has a selective desaturation filter that you could apply.
