  Opening photos
Posted by: Pete Clegg - 01-10-2022, 11:19 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (1)

I'm using Gimp 2.10.30 on a Windows 10 system and having trouble opening images.  They open at seemingly random scales, sometimes tiny on screen and sometimes massively zoomed in.  I can immediately resize them to fill the screen with ctrl+shift+j but still it's a bit annoying and a problem I never had with any previous Gimp version.

Thanks in advance if anyone has a solution.

How can I improve text on a yellowed/blotched page?
Posted by: j4nd3r53n - 01-10-2022, 06:49 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (4)

I am working on scanning some historical texts, in Chinese - unfortunately the pages are somewhat yellowed and blotched, like the one attached. Is there a easy way to make the background paler - or even completely white - while preserving or darkening the ? I'm preparing the photo for OCR; so far I have only managed to digitalize a minor part of the text.

  Where does it go?
Posted by: sallyanne - 01-10-2022, 07:51 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (10)

The last gimp build I had 2.10.22 had a Raw editing Program already in it. (I don't remember installing one)
I am now using 2.10.30 and it doesn't have any but is telling me I can install RawTherapee or Darktable to open Raws
I have downloaded them...where do I put them?

  Re-installing Gimp 2.10
Posted by: rich2005 - 01-08-2022, 01:43 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (1)

Windows users often seem to re-install Gimp for whatever-reasons Wink often with no result because the user profile remains.
However, sometimes it is necessary, for example, installing Gimp in a different location.
This a pdf walk-through of the stages using the Gimp installer with the Customize option

The pdf , "on the drawing board" a while, but finally got it down to a reasonable size.
Edit: Spot the mistake, fixed now, duplicated graphic, hate these pdfs, sometimes have mind of their own.

  Making PDF
Posted by: Al- - 01-08-2022, 01:14 PM - Forum: General questions - Replies (8)

I want to make a PDF with pages of different sizes and I add them as layers to the first page but Gimp crops the ones which are bigger than the first page. How can I do it then?

How do I get GIMP to open the default canvas when I click File>new?
Posted by: rickytickytock - 01-08-2022, 03:04 AM - Forum: General questions - Replies (3)

You know when you open Gimp and it has a default canvas? This:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/401729229039075328/929205142694281286/unknown.png
How do you get it to open that default canvas when you click File>new? Because it asks me to define all these properties when I click new, like this:
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/401729229039075328/929205604726235176/unknown.png
But I just want that canvas that you get by default when you open the program. How do I do that? Thanks.

Photo Reading DJVU
Posted by: Jan-80 - 01-07-2022, 03:37 PM - Forum: Windows - Replies (2)

Hello,

I found there is a module for GIMP to read .djvu files on https://github.com/cosmiclattes/gimpDjvu

That is from 8 years ago, so I assume it must  be incorporated into the main program by now. Actually, when installing GIMP on my Windows machine, it declares itself as the default reader for djvu-files. And yet, it doesn't work. I assume because the proper open library, referenced in the above github page, is not installed for GIMP. How do I do that?

I'm running  GIMP 2.10.8 on Windows 10 Pro.

The error message is:

GIMP Message

Opening 'H:\ (filename) .djvu' failed: Unknown file type

Or is it something else ?

Regards,

  White balance

If I use the eyedropper in Levels to set the gray balance, is there a way to apply this settings to other photos?
